Aaron Ashbrook, born 1732 in Frederick COunty, Virginia, now Hampshire Co.
West Virginia and died about 1810 (eventually Jannuary 4. 1810) in Bourbon
County, Kentucky.
On February 22, 1773, Washington’s dairy details his purchase of a rifle from
Aaron Ashbrook for £4 and 15 shillings. With references to Account, Washington
with George Mercer, 1757, Washington Papers, Series 4 (Library of Congress):
George Washington Ledger A, f.33. this purchase of a gun was already made in
1757. Later that year, he had it repaired by Joshua Baker, a gun-maker in
Frederick County, Virginia, who specialized in rifles. As Baker died in 1769
probably 1757 is correct for that gun purchase of George Washington.
